great mid layerit could have a draw cord at the waist but still it works great for layering on days when you're getting' after the pow pow. The extra napoleon pocket became useless.

Hometown-like skiing in my sleeping bag.Pulled out my new Hometown jacket this past Wednesday evening......10 degrees in Western NY and the big fan guns were blasting from top to bottom.....and I could not have been happier with my jacket of choice. Most skiers chose the scraped off icy trails to avoid the blast of man-made eastern 'POW' , but run after run to charged head on into the fury ....slaying the freshly blown whales like Ahab and the Pequod ! The Hometown was as cozy as my down sleeping bag....kept me warm on the lift yet I had no issue with overheating on the trail. I did read a comment about the jacket not having a cinch cord for the hood but I found this was a non-issue for me..... the hood fit easily over my helmet and with the front zipper all the way up to my chin I found that the elastic trim held the hood right in place ...even at high speed. Overall I am really happy with the Hometown....maybe another day i'll review my Environ Jacket and how well it handled 6 hours of skiing in the rain today. Take it easy....But take it!!

Best 800 Fill Jacket I could find.I spent a lot of time researching down jackets with a hood. I looked at all the major brands including Patagonia and MontBell. This jacket has the highest fill weight for 800 down of all the jackets in my price range. It also has a lot of nice features like a large interior pocket with a zipper closure and another interior pocket for a cell phone. Exterior pockets have a very soft lining and seem to be just the right size. Hood is adjustable from the back and very warm. Best quality overall for me was the fit. It was perfect with just enough room for layering. Sleeves length and body length were dead on. Only thing I wasn't crazy about was the contrasting color of the zippers which were bright green. Everyone else in the family liked the bright zippers. Glad I bought this jacket and will definitely look for more Stio products in the future.

Great jacket that works!Fantastic jacket, keeps you super warm and the cut of the jacket keeps in the extra warmth. There is a draw cord on the bottom of the jacket which you can synch in. Keep me nice and toasty during the polar vortexes we experienced on the East Coast this winter.

Sleeping Bag Feeling??Great warm coat...reminds me that am in a sleeping bag. Great zippers all around and has a full snug hood. I have last years coat model...so take this into account...I do not think they have changed it much. I did get a great deal on the jacket..and even if I had to pay full price I would not change anything in my review. Must mentioned I bought 2 pairs of pants also..get for climbing and running around town...overall top designs on both.

Quality Zipper with StyleThe Stio catalog just appeared in my mail box one day this October. I immediately opened this new catalog and started thumbing through it. I landed on the Hometown Down Hooded Jacket and could not believe what I saw… What laid before my eyes was what I have been asking other brands to provide for years. A REAL ZIPPER. In my line of work the most import and item on a coat is the durability. I have owned many many down and synthetic down coats over the past and inevitably they all go back to the manufacture because the zipper has failed. I hurried down the mile long drive way to show my wife my new winter coat. A week later the Hometown Hooded Down Jacket arrived just in time for Western Montana's 2014 November -16 F blast. Accompanied only by the Basis Stretch Marino Crew back out to the mail box (2 mile round trip) in the cold with the dogs to see how the new product would preform. Lets just say they preformed flawlessly and still continue too. The fit is true to size, the hood will accept my ski helmet with the zipper al the way up for a cozy 15 minute ride up the Saddle Mountain Lift at Lost Trail. I love the colors on the coat and the seams. I am excited to use this coat all winter and look forward to many Stio product in the future. Maybe in the future the Outside Zipper pocket will be deep enough to accept my Motorola CP 200 Radio a must in my line of work to keep all outside operations running seamlessly. Bring on the SNOW and the COLD

Sturdy, versatile warm jacketThe Hometown Down hooded jacket is well made and seems like something that will last a long time. It is pretty light weight for it's warmth factor. For really cold weather you definitely need layers underneath - but that makes it more versatile, in my opinion. I have a really lofty, baffled down jacket that is too warm in a lot of situations. With the Stio jacket I can just add layers when I need them. The hood is well designed. The hand warmer pockets are great. The jacket has a longer back, which I really appreciate. Great jacket that met my expectations.

Loved the giftBought this for my husband for Christmas. He just received it yesterday but is looking forward to trying it out on those cold winter days in the Adirondack park. The fit is perfect! So far he loves it but he really hasn't had an opportunity to try it out. More to follow.

Using it for everythingI'll admit it - I'm a jacket fanatic. I have a closet full of jackets that I buy for specific environmental cases, like "cold raining", "warm raining", "running", "apres ski", etc. So when I bought this jacket, I was skeptical of myself. Would I really use it? If the first month is any proof - this is my new go-to jacket. I've used it for absolutely everything *except* rainy bike rides, and it's performed wonderfully. My star deduction on quality is currently a minor concern - some of the stitching has come loose. Not sure yet if that stitching is even important, no actual seams are open. My only request would be to make it a slightly longer coat. It doesn't fully cover my shirt tails, for example. But at the price point, I think it's totally unbeatable.

Very Best Down Coat availablePerfect weight, no feather loss, perfect fill, love the fit of the hood, great color choice, very warm and comfortable, tried on at least 30 other brands before making decision to buy this one and it is a winner, best coat ever.

Great jacket with short sleevesI was really excited to get this jacket and pretty much love everything about it except the sleeve length. I have worn Patagonia jackets for years along with other brands here and there and never had a problem with that. I've not noticed my knuckles dragging while I walk, so I don't think my arms are exceptionally long, but the sleeves seem short. Another inch or so and it would be all good, but if I outstretch one or both arms, my wrists are exposed and it looks and feels weird. I'm just shy of 6' tall and wear a Large. The torso fits well so an XL wouldn't work for me. The weight, material, quality and styling of the jacket are great though.

great jacketIt's warm. It's light. The hood fits. The zippers are quality. It's Chicago in January and I'm not freezing.

Outstanding jacketI bought this jacket early in the winter and have put it through a week of skiing in cold conditions at Snowmass and many hours outside doing chores in a cold Iowa winter. This jacket rocks!. Best down jacket I've ever had and I've had them from all the other top manufacturers. The cut is nice and snug to go under a shell if needed, but by itself it's very wind and precipitation resistant. I plowed snow for two hours in a blizzard Sunday morning, 10 degress and 35mph winds wearing only a t-shirt and turtle neck underneath and was toasty warm. I'm 5'11, 160 and the Med is perfect.

Warm and light better than Hot Cocoa for a kidLightweight and warm that keeps a smile on my sons face all cold nights training. The hood is essential. Colored zipper is cool

Best Jacket EverBy far my favorite jacket I've ever owned. So comfortable. Very stylish colors and trim and zipper details. Higher quality down than I found from most other high-end brands. There's a perfectly placed pocket for everything I ever store, the big one inside for gloves hats and goggles, sunglasses pocket inside by the chest, napoloen pocket for holding my phone and wallet on the slopes. The handwarmer hand pockets are my favorite, lots of cold days I don't even bother with gloves if I'm just getting around as the pockets are so warm the instant you put your hands in. This jacket has kept me the perfect temperature in -10 degree F windy days in the city, and not too warm on 30 degree sunny days on the slopes. This jacket definitely sets itself way apart from the other downs I've looked at. Love Love Love it.

Warm, versatile, arms just a little shortI got this jacket on sale, and for the money there isn't a better warm coat out there. Pricewise, it beats the Patagonia down sweater but beats it in quality. The hand warmer pockets are a perfect touch, and the styling of the coat has elicited more than a few inquiring comments. Down Tek is a great innovation and makes this jacket way more versatile. My 7 year old son has this in gray and won't take it off; he loves it more than he loves chicken nuggets, which is saying something. My one complaint is that the arms are just a bit too short. When I hold my arms out straight, the sleeves pull past my wrists a bit. I don't know, maybe I have monkey length arms, but my jackets in the past (Patagonia, North Face, EMS, etc) had sufficiently long sleeves to fit my simian limbs. On the whole, though, a great coat.

New brand offering top qualityAfter wearing this jacket around town, hiking and on a cold fall backpacking trip, I'm pretty happy to say that Stio makes an extremely high-quality product. It's plenty warm, feathers stay in place with their baffle arrangement, pockets fit my hands comfortably, and it avoids unnecessary bulk. The low-profile elastic cuffs layer nicely under a shell and the hood is well designed to fit over hats with a sort of gasket to keep the wind out. Overall, sizing runs a bit large around the torso. I'm 5'10" 165 lbs and got a medium. The sleeves are about perfect for me, but there's a lot of room around the torso. If you're more barrel-chested or have short arms, this coat will probably fit great. If you're like me, it's got room for a puffy vest or something on the inside. The torso comes down fairly low, which I like, but it does tend to stick out from under my current shell.

Overall excellent Great fit - true to size. Not too lofty so is good for layering under rain shell if needed.
5
Very impressed.I have been surprised at how well this jacket repels wet snow and light rain without wetting out. I really appreciate the way it is cut in the backside giving a little more coverage below the waist so I can bend over and not expose my lower back. The only addition I would make would be to add some kind of adjustment cord to the front of the hood near the chin.
4.7
A really high quality product I own several down 'puffies' and the Stio version I own is the warmest and highest quality (comparing to Patagonia and North Face). Quality is akin to, and really better than Artyryx - in that same quality vicinity. The coat is very warm and comfortable - never really get too warm but on some super cold days with this and my Environment jacket, I have stayed pretty darn warm. I two coats together also look great (the gunsmoke colors). I also noted the coat is fairly tear resistant - I happened across a sharp edge in my garage a few weeks' back and there were no issues with the jacket -- not something I do often but did notice it withstood this stress. Highly recommend this hooded down jacket, but it is on the expensive side of the market.

Versatile!I purchased this for my Father for Christmas as he requested a lightweight warm jacket for hunting season. He LOVES everything about it....the warmth vs weight ratio in particular, and the grey color looks nice on him. Highly recommend!
5
Well designed and stylish!I love this jacket. Durable construction and well designed pockets and hood. Love the lined hand pockets! Plus it is warm and stylish.
4.7
Great coat but could be betterI've had this coat now for two years and have really got a chance to wear it in many different situations. It is extremely warm and extremely well made. The fit is a bit barrel chested which I don't love. I'd prefer it fit a little slimmer and closer to the body but that's just my preference. The one thing I don't love are the hand cuffs. After two years the elastic in mine feels like it wearing a bit and parts of it are starting to pill. If better fit and no issues with cuffs, this would be close to the perfect coat.
4.3
Great QualityEverything is as advertised and excellent quality. I'd like to see a few more color option in the future. Best coat you could find in this category as I did a lot of research before I made this purchase. The hood is very comfortable. This coat is warm.

Solid Functional We'll MadeI'm 6'2" 180 and the medium fit well. I got the jacket as a hard core go to winter jacket for back country skiing, snow shoeing and all around use. I recently broke trail up Mt Elbert on a bluebird day. It packed well into my day pack and kept me warm at 14k where the wind always blows.
