Best jacket I own Review by bigfoothunter5

I picked up this jacket because it was on the cheaper end compared to some of Stio's other jackets, but I've ended up wearing this jacket more than anything else I've bought from them. It's extremely comfortable and versatile, and has even gotten some good use as a shell on rainy or snowy days. The windproof factor is definitely a huge plus too. Highly recommended.

jacket looks and fits great. love the elastic cuffs and the fact that the sleeves arent super long. i am a 43 chest and 33 sleeve and the large fits perfectly. enough room that its comfy and you can layer but not so much that its like wearing a shapeless tent. great light weight and does a good job of keeping cold/wind out . i wouldve given it 5 stars across the board except for one thing, the dwr is just okay. can take a light drizzle but anything more than that for more than 10 minutes and the shoulders, hood, cuffs, chest pocket all soak through. its a great light jacket to wear when its dry out but if you plan to wear it in more than a drizzle for more than 10 minutes you are going to get wet.

Very nice casual jacket, more tech needed Review by Kris

Great looking jacket. Style and colors are right on the mark. Stretchy shell and lining are very comfortable in casual conditions. Great attention to details. Very functional for a +40˚F casual jacket. For the money and because of the already great details and styling, I expected the jacket to be a little more functional on the technical side. 1) Sleeves. This is the one big problem with the jacket. I normally wear a large, but the sleeves (or back/shoulder cut) on the Vescent are too short for any activity where you raise your arms up out in front of you... e.g. Riding a bike, shoveling snow, etc. So basically there's a big gap between your sleeves and gloves unless your arms stay down by your sides. I sized up to XL for this reason, which works fine, but I lose out on some of the trim fit of the Large. 2) Insulation. I expected the fleece insulation to be a little bit thicker/warmer. Seems like there's not quite enough insulation to make this jacket much warmer than my standard tech rain shell or windbreaker jacket. 3) The draw cords on the waist hang loose when tightened. (Especially on XL.) They should be hidden somehow or secured so they don't dangle from your waist. They are waiting to get caught on something... It works fine to tuck them back under themselves, but its an issue that could be redesigned. 4) Finally I think the waist or at least on the back side, could use another inch in length. With the L, the waist crept up, exposing my bare back, when I got on a bike, bent over to pick something up, etc. Especially with the draw cord tightened even slightly. In summary this jacket met my expectations regarding style and casual comfort, but I expected or would prefer more technical functionality. For warmth, I was looking for a jacket somewhere between rain shell/wind breaker and thick winter coat, and the Vescent is closer to a shell or light jacket than you would tend to believe for a windproof jacket with a fleece lining. Overall I recommend it, if the arm length is not an issue. For reference, I'm 6'0'', and I live in Wisconsin.

I do have other gear that I could have gotten by fine with. -Pieces that suit decently. But ever since soft shells came along and I happened to try one on at a store I've wanted one. Nothing I tried fit me well enough and or came in a color scheme I could get along with to commit. Not helping... all would more strictly serve as a shell only. No expanded use w/ varying temps. When I saw this one I had a solid sense that it'd be the ticket. Full agreement with other reviewers. > Notable quality throughout. Couldn't really know a better fit. Sleeve length spot on for my longer arms. (I'm 5' 11", 155 / 160 lbs. M seems perfect allowing for latitude in layering up/ down.) Really appreciate that they opted to do the cuffs the way they did sans velcro. This materials natural elasticity, water shedding, wind blocking and warmth with the added fleece backing are winning/ wunnerful. Little marvel that all the other reviews paint the picture of a predominant + here. Fine work STIO. Thanky. I hope I see solid service and utility from it over the years.

I have had this for about a month but have had other soft shell Jackets and Garments
The Details of hood, cuffs , Sizing are very well thought out with details incorporated, ie small zipper Flap covers for the zipper Toggle when it is pulled closed

The material sheds weather very well and excellent breathing capabiliites
during exertion and or being still.

For me it compares to Scholler Quality and Scholler WB 400 performance

Sizing is very well calabrated Med Fits me great where most other manufacturers i need to go to a Large
I am 5'8" 33-34 waist 180ish in wgt

Very good jacket for solid 3 seqson use

Overall this is a great soft shell. Good weight as both a final layer on warmer on-hill days as well as for average-temp BC touring. Some may find it slightly too heavy for touring on warmer days (on ascent), so have to layer accordingly. Fit is great, enough slack to get a few layers underneath but not at all loose (I'm 6' and 170lbs, wearing an M).

Pros - love the fabric, the weight, the color, the zipper garages, the idea

Cons - sleeves too short - I have 37" sleeves and ordered XXL hoping to gain sleeve length - not. Hood is a mystery - it has a head circumference adjustment on the back which is good, but no way to snug it up around your face. Seems like an obvious miss.

Overall its a nice piece with a couple of design issues

Vescent Jacket...a spring skiing dream Review by Tommy O

I stumbled upon the Stio store in Jackson and really liked your stuff, but didn't pull the trigger on anything because it was freezing cold and a spring shell was the last thing on my mind. After my trip to JH I signed up for a Stio newsletter and then started to think about my annual spring trip to Aspen. The timing was perfect as I received an email a few weeks before the trip and decided to pull the trigger. Not only was this the perfect coat for the 40 degree temps, but it became a conversation piece as noone in Aspen had ever heard of the brand (maybe it's all the poser Kjus and Montcler they sell/wear in Aspen). On our last day in Aspen the temps dropped and it started nuking snow and my Vescent jacket kept me warm and dry. Can't wait to buy my next Stio piece. Love it.

Recently took this jacket on a ski trip to Colorado and it performed amazingly well in frigid winds, very wet snow and rain. Layered wool underneath and I stayed warm and dry - rain and wet snow rolled right off.

My only slightly negative comment is that the hood was a bit snug around my helmet when I needed it. Not sure that it was truly designed for over-the-hood wear, so can't really fault it if that's the case.

I'm 6'-0" and 185 lbs, purchased the medium and it fit well with layers underneath. Tried the large and it was fine in the sleeves, but a big baggy in the body. Overall a great jacket and one that I'll wear easily off the slopes.

I love this jacket. One of the most versatile in my quiver. Soft, stretchable soft-shell outer, highly water resistant, with the perfect amount of soft fleece lining. I've worn this in everything from cool fall evenings to -20F with some insulating layers. For me, it is the perfect jacket for most conditions. About the only thing I wouldn't use it for would be high wind chill or heavy rain, but I've got a hard-shell for that. And I get complemented literally every time I wear it.

Very warm jacket, even without layers. I bought so I could put a few layers when needed. The built in inside layer, though, makes it pretty warm with just a single base layer. The cuffs are really nice also; big enough to go over a glove, but snug enough that they don't let wind in. Good hood too.

This winter is not shaping up like we hoped in the PNW, and took my son skiing in a 'light rain' at Mt Bachelor. I just got this jacket a few days before and figured I'd test out the water resistance. The DWR did great to bead up and I was dry inside. About 2 hours of skiing and sitting in a light rain drizzle. Impressive for a soft shell skin touring jacket.
