Why We Built It

Winner of a Runner's World Gear Of The Year Award, the Alpha® Alpine Hooded Jacket is a highly technical cardio outer layer designed for stop-and-go, high-output activities like hiking, running and riding. Revolutionary Polartec® Alpha® breathable insulation actively regulates core body tempertures during stop/start pursuits with a durable, high-loft fiber weave. This construction dynamically moves moisture out during activity while a polyester mesh lining keeps core heat in, providing warmth and comfort without the weight and bulk. A reversible Meridian™ AP stretch mini-rip outer with DWR sheds light rain and lets air circulate, keeping you dry and on pace. Stash bars and gels get handy access in the zippered back pocket.

Insulation: 100% Polyester, Polartec® Alpha® Breathable Insulation, 60G, Bluesign Approved.

Alpha® is a 100% polyester knit active insulation that eliminates the need to shed layers while on the move. Designed to regulate core body temp during dynamic and static activities, Alpha® technology keeps moisture vapor moving freely through the fabric, increasing the overall air exchange and speeding up dry times. A DWR coating provides water resistance, increasing this fabric's performance in the most challenging environments.

Can't take it off!
Review by Dylan-Staff

This jacket has been a revelation for me this winter. It simply works in ANY application and weather. Breathes incredibly well on an uphill skin, while still working as a toasty layer underneath a shell on the tram. Everyday around town this is always the piece I grab first, and now that the snow is gone, it's a perfect jacket for springtime climbing as well with the DWR finish keeping me dry from perpetual drizzles. At 5'11" and 160lbs, the Large was right for me. Maybe a *little* baggy, but the sleeves are perfect length.

Throw away all your fleeces
Review by VTRunnr

I’ve been running for more than 15 years — trails, roads, track and xc, you name it. Winter running always had a hurdle: how do you layer to stay warm without eventually sweating into a soggy mess?

No combination of fleeces and long sleeve Ts, windbreakers and base layers worked consistently.

And then I found this jacket.

I’m not exaggerating: you never need to run in a fleece again. This jacket is so light you don’t even notice it, and it covers an amazing temperature range. If it’s really really cold (sub-zero), I’ll layer it with the Second Light jacket, otherwise I just throw it on over a T-shirt or LS.

Buy this jacket, hit the trails, and never look back.

A+.

perfect layer that keeps you warm & cool while running
Review by geodude

Unbelievably comfortable.

Keeps you warm but lets you breathe. Went out in some light rain and the jacket was totally fine.

Reversible design with pocket on the back is sweet, and ideal for running/biking.

Would absolutely recommend!

Perfect lightweight jacket
Review by John T.

This jacket quickly became my new favorite. Wears very lightweight, but still provides significant warmth without overheating. Perfect for biking, hiking and summer evenings from town to the campsite.

For spring and fall early morning runs, spring skiing, hikes etc. Very comfortable even next to skin. Very light. Dries fast. You'll find a million uses for this layer.

Super Comfortable
Review by TreeGuy

I was curious about this jacket since it came out. I finally bought one this fall. I think I have worn it everyday at some point and I love it. It's not bulky at all and you instantly feel good when you put it on. Its not the typical slick nylon and feels almost like cotton. It will keep you warm while not active down to about 50 or high 40's but it's really made for higher output activity than campfire attire. I live on the central coast of California and this jacket is perfect for the mild fall/winter temps and the cool foggy summer climate. My only complaint is the hem tension system that Stio uses. If Stio kept the tension system in the pocket but didn't sew/attach it at the zipper it would work better. Because it goes in the pocket and then back out to attach at the zipper, when tensioned it causes the front to curl up in an odd way. I would suggest they eliminate the part that goes back out of the pock to the zipper and the system would be better. Otherwise outstanding product. Kudos!

Great Jacket
Review by HT

I have had this jacket for just under a month now and love it. It was the perfect weight for chilly WI mornings (upper 30's) going into milder (upper 50's to lower 60's) afternoons. Worked will in light to moderate rain. I really like how light and airy it feels. Great jacket!!

Go to fall morning or evening jacket for walking the new pooch.
Review by Sleeeepguy

So freakin soft it's like an old sweatshirt but perform like some techy outback monster. Wicked wicking when I steam up. Keeps me at the right temp as my temp changes as well as the environment. My wife loved hers so I Naturally had to pull the trigger. Did I say it's so soft!

Great Jacket!
Review by Will

Love the jacket and Stio is top notch in customer service I ordered a small and well it was too small. When I tried to exchange I was told there were none available in Medium in the color I chose. So I called the store in Jackson to see if it was available. I lucked out and a medium size was there. The pleasant store agent in Jackson worked with their distribution center in California to make my exchange seamless. Now I have the size and style I wanted!

Take Everywhere
Review by James

I bring this thing everywhere. It keeps me warm when temps are cool, but I don't over heat when I am doing something active. I also love keeping it with me when I travel because I use it as a comfy hoodie for dirtbagging around.

Awesome Jacket
Review by G Rose

Awesome jacket. Just like they advertise on the site. Comfortable to wear in a lot of conditions. I got the black which looks good all the time. For a fresh look the other day, I switched it around to the lime green. Felt like I had another new jacket! Fit is perfect. I am 5'8" and 155 pounds. Medium fit me perfect. A little spendy but as they say......Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten. I think this jacket will be in the quiver for a while.

So far I've skied, hiked, climbed & backpacked in this jacket. Great for all but true winter conditions. Packs light & moves effortlessly. Fit is athletic & not restrictive. Near perfection- hardly tell its on, yet you're warm. Also nice in town or to work. Two sides are like the coat equivalent to the mullet - business on one side, party on the other.

Excellent!
Review by DavidR

Performs as described. Just traveled through Burgandy France and packed it in case. Weather turned out cold and rainy. Jacket allowed for some good hiking despite the conditions. Very comfortable - stayed dry in continuous drizzle

Great light weight ski jacket for the hubby.
Review by Marcia

My husband saw this on line and was not able to bring himself to buy it since he has plenty of ski clothes so I bought it for him as a surprise. He loves it although, if he could, he would take the hood off. Other than it not being a detachable hood, he’s thrilled with the jacket. Seems high priced.

My new best friend
Review by PW

Loving this jacket right now. Super excited for highly breathable synthetic insulation! It is very light, feels space age technical, and layers well under my Modis Jacket. I plan to avoid wearing pack with this to prevent wear and tear as it comes at a premium price.

Exceeds expectations
Review by Booyah

This coat is awesome. It is super light weight yet it keeps me warm down to about 20 degrees. It's also light enough to where when it's much warmer. Not sure how it works but it's great.
