Why We Built It

They say the pant makes the man. Actually, they don’t say that, but we do, which is why we designed the Men’s Colter™ Pant. This definitive mountain chino is one that every guy needs. Its Shoeller® Cotton canvas with spandex treatment allows for slight stretch while nanosphere® takes care of durability and stain resistance. Articulated knees and a gusseted crotch make it easy to spend an hour or two working on that bouldering problem before you head to the in-laws’ house for dinner, with no one being the wiser that you didn’t run home and change in between.

Good, not great
Review by Austin

Bought these in my usual 32x32, but they were much too small. Ordered a 33x34 and the fit was great. After a few washes the inseam shrunk by a good inch or two, which rendered them unwearable. Hopefully this issue is corrected as I love the material and fit.

Good looking pants, but can't size it up
Review by Wild Boar

After ordering and trying on all combos of 30 and 32 inches, I conclude I need a 31x30 option. I will be watching for it will be the first order in!

Three star
Review by Tommylynn

Pants perfect at first. Too short after first wash. Very disappointed.

Very Comfortable
Review by mnmwyo

Make sure to order 2 inches longer in length. Very comfortable to wear because of the stretch material. The cut is a bit on the slim side.

too short
Review by krissygirl

Got these for my husband for christmas. Order the length one size up, they do run short.

Sweet pants
Review by Freddy

Would be five stars on love it scale and quality except they shrunk about 2 inches in length and I can't really wear them comfortably anymore. Really disappointing because they ain't cheap, hence the value took a hit in my review. Please order next size up in inseam and you will be very happy.

Great material, decent fit
Review by Nick

I'm 6'4", 220 lbs. and ordered a 36" x 34" pant. While there was too much room in the waist, a 35" option would have been ideal, the thighs are too tight for my liking. The length is great and the material is top-notch.

In short, would have liked a little more room through the thighs.

Great pant
Review by John

Bought to try out brand. Now have three pairs of their pants. The Colter pant fits great. Wish it was a half size linger but not a great deal. Attention to detail is very good. Only thing is the difference in the two colors is almost imperceptible. Wish the lighter color was lighter. Wear hiking, golfing and in general. Nice product. Wore in misty rain and the fabric worked great.

Yep. They shrink!
Review by St. Bernard

The only negative aspect of these pants, is that they shrunk nearly an inch even while drying without the use of a dryer. Disappointed in the quality. I did mention this to the staff at the JH store this fall. I do like the material. From pints to even a gym workout. I may point out if you have athletic thighs, they may run a bit tight. A bit narrow in the thigh.

Almost perfect
Review by Steve

These pants are almost perfect. I love the material, quality, and fit. Two things keep them from being perfect: as others have noted, they tend to run a bit short. Also, the front pockets are a bit shallow and tighter than I like. All that being said, they are very comfy and I'll have to live with the pockets.

My new favorite pants
Review by rob

I'm all about these pants. Have usurped my MK's as my go to move. Just ordered my second pair. I like my MK's very much but these offer a good comfortable fit with a bit less 'engineering' than most of the MK designs. A simplified look that can be dressed up a bit more as needed but still work as an everyday, every use pant. I'm 6' 175lb, and wear the 32x34. Fits exactly how I want it to.

my favorite pants
Review by bluehose

these pants are my favorite pants i have ever owned they are great for causal wear or anything on weekends . I have pants for two other top brands that start with M and other brands but find these the most comfortable pants i have ever had, and feel appropriate wearing to an oyster roast, to a nice restaurant or friends for dinner with sweaters or a blazer if needed. they are so comfortable that lounging around in them is great too. The fabric in not stiff like some pants, and so comfortable. My friends have seen them, and want to know where i got them. I am planning to get a second pair soon so that i don't wear these out from wearing them almost all the time. great product, have two jackets from Stio that i love too…keep up the good work>

What would John Colter Think?
Review by BK

I purchased due to the fabric description for its durability and comfort. First impression was great. Wear in the field and wear out for pints! A bit pricey for my taste, but I went with them for the possibility of longevity. After the first wash, they shrunk in length by almost a inch. This is without putting them in the dryer. Cold washed and hanged dried. I can still wear them, but kind of short. I stopped at STIO JH and mentioned this to the staff. Hope they passed this on to the design team. Carry on...

These pants will make you feel tall.
Review by The Dude

These pants have gotten rave reviews by a variety of outdoor gear websites and publications - so I decided to give them a try myself. Price wise, these are in-line with PataGucci...so I can't honestly say that they offer a better value than comparable pants. First impression is they're great quality, feel great, and look great (I'm vain, but look at me anyway!). Took me a couple days of wearing them around the house with sandals to realize that these pants are a tad bit short. I wear the 30x32 and I'm 5'9" (and 9 & 3/4" for my ego). While the pants fit me around the waist perfectly (30"), they just feel a little short. If I wear them with a pair of chukka boots, they don't quite go far enough down on the boot to give complete coverage (like your favorite pair of jeans or khakis might). Don't fret - these are great pants...but if you're a slender dude of average height, you might find that they aren't long quite long enough. On the other hand, you might find that they're the finest pair of pantaloons you've ever owned.

Great quality! Super Water repellent.
Review by DP

I ordered my "true" size (the size I've worn for ages) and it was a good 1" too big in the waist and 2" short in the length, so I ordered another pair and LOVE them.

I love these pants!
Review by CF

These pants are the work horse of my wardrobe. Durable with a good stretch. The Schoeller tech means a messy guy like me can rock these pants for way longer than I could a normal pair of pants.

my new favorites
Review by mtnboy - Staff

I love the fit, the light stretch and the nanosphere treatment on these pants, super comfortable, well made and ready action...run slightly short so I would recommend buying one inseam longer

Nice pants, but they run short.
Review by Bruce

These are so nice that I bought a second pair. However, the inseam is shorter than advertised and mine shrank one inch. Thus be sure to order longer than your usual inseam length.

great pants
Review by slash100

love the fabric, love the fit...seems true to size. very comfortable

They shrunk!
Review by Bruce

These are wonderful pants. Unfortunately they shrunk badly in length in the dryer. I would strongly recommend buying them with an inseam two inches longer than usual. I ordered another pair – unfortunately I'm out $105 since they can't be returned after washing.
