Awesome Jacket!
Review by Coops

I live in the Northeast, and have purchased many an Arcteryx jacket over the years, which have been great. This is my first Stio garb, and this jacket rocks the house! It's not too heavy, but has enough insulation to keep me warm. I have worn in it the 30s up to the 60s, and have been fine in any of those temps. It's my go to jacket, especially since it has kind of a rugged look to it, as opposed to a traditional softshell jacket with a more athletic look. And the range of motion in the shoulders is awesome. I wasn't sure what to expect when I bought this jacket, but I have been very pleasantly surprised. If this is a representation of all Stio clothing, then I'm sure to get more in the future for myself and for my wife.

Loving the Hardscrabble Insulated Jacket
Review by Go-to Jacket

Just enough insulation that I choose it over my other soft shell.

Great jacket. Fit & design gets better every season.

Great all around jacket

Very nice jacket...fits well in the shoulders...a little loose in the base area. made well and looks sharp. I wear this all the time in the spring time...easy off and on.

My go-to jacket
Review by Bill

Couldn't be happier. Never purchased a Stio product before, have typically purchased Arc'teryx in the past. I am in the military assigned to Europe. I needed a civilian jacket that wouldn't take up a lot of space when I travel with a small pack of gear but was also versatile enough that it could cover any condition I find myself in. This jacket is perfect! The prima-loft insulation is deceptively warm and the jacket can be compressed into a tiny space. It shrugs off the Spanish rain without getting wet, breaks the chill of the German morning, and cuts the wind of Eastern Europe. A technical jacket that still looks like something a man would buy. Do yourself a favor, buy this jacket and also buy the Basis Power Dry Zip as an underlayer... you'll be prepared for anything, anywhere. Thanks Stio!

A very nice functional /insulated travel jacket

Deceptively warm for its lack of bulk, extremely comfortable, great quality. My first Stio product, I guarantee there will be more if this is the quality I can expect.

Stellar light weight jacket for many climates
Review by S. Little

Great looking and comfortable jacket. Warm enough for a 15 degree day, but not so heavy that you cannot wear on a 45 degree day. Well designed, excellent construction and fits perfectly.

Exceptional quality and versatility
Review by samh

From the superb fabric choices to the exceptional sewing this piece is proving it's durability. I have worn it nearly everyday for the past four months in conditions ranging from -20F to +50F, in blizzards of powder to sheets of rain, sunny but chilly days, to blustery wind.

The addition of an insulated vest underneath the jacket aids in the most extreme of cold and the use of a scarf to keep the neck drafts to a minimum during the worst of cold and wind is recommended. Generally speaking the design and construction of this jacket meets a very wide range of conditions and activities.

I've put it to the test over the course of 120 days during the following activies, day hikes, XC skiing, bicycle commuting, and walking. Any limitations I've found are just as balanced with advantages in another arena which is the mark of a well-rounded design. I highly recommend this jacket for everyday wear for anyone wishing to have a technical piece of outerwear that doesn't look at a glance to be a technical piece of outerwear.

Perfect Jacket
Review by PS

This is exactly the jacket I've been looking for. It has a technical feel, but doesn't look like a technical jacket. The lining is great and helps the comfort. I love that Stio is creating gear that not only performs well, but looks great too.

I wear it every day I can. Great fit for my long arms with style and function. Thanks Stio!

solid performer
Review by Pete

I waited until the jacket was on sale; the original price I think is a bit high, but the sale price made it much easier to purchase. The jacket combines style with function very nicely, can wear it in virtually any circumstance down to about 30 degrees. Have not had it during a warmer season, but I suspect it will be good up to about 55-60 degrees..overall thats a very good temperature range for one jacket.. The quality appears first rate..it functions well in light/medium precip and is comfortable when its wet.Sizing is accurate; I am 6 foot, 200 pounds, 44 inch chest, 37 waist and bought a large..fit is comfortable, the hang is slightly tapered but not athletic.. Overall, it has quickly become one of my favorites..the navy color is awesome.

Classy performance
Review by JBM

The Hardscrabble is my go-to jacket when I want to keep it classy without sacrificing warmth and comfort. Enough insulation for chilly days in New England, soft shell blocks the wind and sheds light precip, but has just a bit of stretch to it that helps it move with you. Definitely nice enough to wear to a meeting, but has a hint of steez that stands out at the bar.

Outdoor-to-Office Machine
Review by dwatz

Plan and simple the best multipurpose outdoor jacket around. Great for layering on the hill and stylish enough to roll right in to the office without changing

Do Anything Jacket
Review by PDX503

The Hardscrabble is the genius combination of a softshell exterior with lightweight, high performance insulation. The result is a durable, do anything jacket for a wide range of temperatures and conditions.

In Portland, where the weather can switch from sunny days to freezing rain overnight, it has become the most versatile jacket I own. The styling fits-in as well downtown, as it does hiking in Forest Park. Its DWR is good for light rain and the cut slim but with room for layering. The 40 grams of Primaloft ONE is is just enough to give it a wide comfort range without any sort of bulkiness. In fact, I've worn this jacket with just a t-shirt from the 50s down to the upper 30s (anything colder and I'd pair it with an Ole Glory fleece for added warmth).

This is definitely a wise investment - I've spent far more on all numerous softshells that haven't worked as well as the Hardscrabble.
